The Cosmopolitan: Student Voices That Matter
The Cosmopolitan is Berlin Cosmopolitan School’s student-led newspaper—a space where students share ideas, raise questions, and reflect on the world around them. Each edition brings together topics from school life and current events to culture, politics, science, and personal perspectives.
The newspaper gives young writers the opportunity to develop their voice, think critically, and contribute to meaningful discussions within the school community. Whether in print or online, The Cosmopolitan reflects the creativity, independence, and engagement of our students—and makes their perspectives visible to the wider community.
The current Issue #3/2026 explores a wide range of topics related to identity, responsibility, achievement, and culture. The contributions range from irony, self-presentation, and Jungian archetypes to the Artemis program and the longevity trend, as well as mental health in competitive sports, feminism, and vegetarianism. The issue also offers insights into school life, including the BCS VEX Robotics Team at the World Championships, a Teacher Spotlight, and articles on film, music, and literature.

Bilingual Abitur and the Middle School Certificate (Mittlerer Schulabschluss)
The Bilingual Abitur is a German qualification that enables students to study at both German and foreign universities.
The final examinations of the German Abitur at the end of grade 12 consist of three written and one oral examination as well as the fifth examination component. The fifth examination component is a “special learning achievement” in the form of a presentation on a specialist topic.
Students in the 10th grade complete the “Mittlerer Schulabschluss” (MSA) of the state of Berlin. Students who have spent less than two school years at a German school can, on application, replace the German examination with an English Science examination. Further examinations are an oral examination in English and a presentation examination. In the presentation exam, students give a presentation on a topic of their choice.
According to Berlin regulations, successful completion of the MSA examinations is a prerequisite for students to be able to enter the upper school.
