Cosmopolitans for World Peace: A Letter from Yvonne Wende to the BCS-Community

Dear BCS-Community, dear Friends,

I am very moved by the situation in Ukraine. War is always terrible and cannot be the solution. With my grief and thoughts I am with the people who got harmed and lost loved ones during the war in Ukraine.

As an international community we work and study in a peaceful and save environment together with people from more than 50 nations. As a cosmopolitan community we want to show the world that our cosmopolitan way, embracing all cultures with respect is the key for a peaceful and fulfilling future.

In a cosmopolitan community we welcome people from all over the world. Among us are of course Ukrainian students, Russian students and now also Ukrainian refugees who started during the last weeks at our school in order to continue their education which they couldn’t since they have to flee Ukraine.

We live in a cosmopolitan community in which we respect each other and show this respect through everyday behaviour and friendly gestures. In our community we realise cosmopolitan efforts: Not long ago students, parents and teachers from all over the world, including Syria, Afghanistan, Iran, Irak, USA, Sweden, France, Poland, Russia and Germany implemented an amazing charity project for Ukrainian refugees of which some volunteers had to flee wars and oppressions before. The charity project is one example  for our cosmopolitan solidarity and what we work for every day.

We realise international music concerts, sports events and science projects. We embrace all languages and cultures, because for us these efforts are the key to a peaceful and healthy future.

I see so much love and peace in our community and I am very thankful and proud to be part of it. We constantly work on us and develop our way of education because our students are part of the generations that are going to create a peaceful and happy future and a healthy world.

During these uncertain times please continue to show the world that respect, understanding and sympathy can only be the answer. Let cosmopolitan thinking be the best example for a peaceful future!
