The program for the Long Day of Urban Nature Project of the Berlin Nature Conservation Foundation on September 18/19, 2021

16th September, 2021

Next Saturday and Sunday, September 18th and 19th, 2021, the project Long Day of Urban Nature will take place. As part of this, the Berlin Cosmopolitan School offers a wide range of non-profit activities in nature for families, educators and the interested public. The topics range from nature and forest education, including (nature) rooms, land art in the forest, nature yoga to walks, singing and preparing bread on a stick. The location of the event is the planned new location of the Berlin Cosmopolitan School: Müggelheimer Damm 145 in 12559 Berlin Köpenick. The Hotel Müggelsee will continue to exist and will be expanded with offers for young and old.

Yvonne Wende, founder and director of the Berlin Cosmopolitan School, says about learning and researching in nature: “In the heart of nature, children can be themselves. They develop a very pronounced, long-term environmental awareness, they develop a healthy body awareness and we educators can use the environment to support young people positively in the long term.”

Program on Saturday, September 18, 2021

The program begins on September 18 at 1 p.m. with a walk across the planned campus at Müggelsee with Yvonne Wende and Katharina Ehrenfried, Berlin Cosmopolitan School, and Ruben van Treeck, fish ecologist, Leibniz Institute. At 3 p.m. there will be a seminar for educators and an interested audience on the topic of differentiation in nature education as a method of inclusion. From 5 p.m. it’s all about inclusive (nature) spaces – theory and didactics for educators and interested audiences. From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. the day ends with singing together, a campfire and preparing bread on a stick.

Program on Sunday September 19, 2021

The program on Sunday begins at 9 a.m. with a walk at the Müggelsee. From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. there is the opportunity to take part in a refreshing forest bathing session. Close-to-nature offer from October 1, 2021 for young and old

From October 1, 2021, forest days for preschoolers will take place on the grounds of Hotel Müggelsee two days a week. In addition, children can be immersively introduced to the English language. For younger children aged 0-3 years, the Berlin Cosmopolitan School offers on-site care of 3 to 5 hours a day for hotel guests in the co-working space. In particular, the diversity-sensitive, respectful program of responsive care according to Emmi Pikler and Magda Gerber will complement the nature concept for the 0-3 year old children. There will also be leisure activities for children and young people.

About the Berlin Cosmopolitan School, Preschool and Kindergarten

The Berlin Cosmopolitan School is changing the traditional way schools and kindergartens work with different approaches to learning in the areas of nature and environmental protection, sports, new work, culture, dance, music and art and much more. The aim of the independent school, preschool and kindergarten is to bring all students along according to their abilities.

“When school motivates, everyone learns more” is the conviction of the Berlin Cosmopolitan School. Regular outdoor learning, sports activities and competitions, digital projects such as robotics, internships from grade 6, music-making from kindergarten age, dance clubs, bilingual education and much more help the children to discover and develop their own preferences and abilities.

Important concerns of the Berlin Cosmopolitan School, Kindergarten and Preschool are social justice, equal opportunities in education and a balanced community. The school regularly awards scholarships to students and accepts refugees. Through its established network and internationally trained staff, the educational institution has the opportunity to explore new educational paths for every age group.

The Berlin Cosmopolitan School was founded in 2003 as a non-profit organisation by Yvonne Wende. In 2004, the first bilingual (English-German) kindergarten and preschool opened for Berlin-Mitte with 18 children. Shortly after, the primary school started and most recently, in 2009, the accredited bilingual Gymnasium of Berlin Cosmopolitan School 01P22. Since then, the number of students has steadily increased. Approximately 1,000 students from all over the world are now being taught on the Rückerstraße and Invalidenstraße campuses. The kindergarten has grown to a number of more than 300 children between the ages of 1 and 6.

In 2013, Berlin Cosmopolitan School was accredited as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, first for primary school and also for the Gymnasium. The IB Learner Profile is about developing children and young people into lifelong learners. The school and kindergarten use primary experiences to design lessons.
