Pulitzer Center Virtual Journalist Visit
Last Friday, as part of their unit on climate change, our grade 12 Abitur English students spoke to Chicago-based journalist, Gina Castro, about her work reporting on social and climate justice issues in the U.S. Ms. Castro’s work for the Pulitzer Center focused on Indigenous communities from the Bayou region who are struggling to cope with hurricanes made more severe by sea-level rise and the nearby oil and gas industry.
In an engaging Q & A, Ms.Castro spoke about the need to tell under-reported stories, her research methods for this report, as well as what inspired her to become a journalist. A big thank you to Gina Castro, Jessica Mims at the Pulitzer Center for this opportunity, and to our grade 12s for being a curious and receptive audience!
