Lantern Festival in BCS Kindergarten

On Friday, November 9th, the BCS Kindergarten & Preschool celebrated St. Martin’s Lantern Festival where children, families and teachers came together to celebrate the tradition of sharing and exhibiting generosity within our community. Sharing one’s light is something that children begin to learn very early on in life. At BCS, we are fortunate to have a vital part in teaching the importance of sharing to children on a daily basis. From sharing a crayon to sharing a hug or kind word to a friend in need, it all begins as a child.

We take pride in the partnership that we have with parents, while deeply valuing our international community that ultimately supports sharing and kindness far beyond our similarities and differences. Just as St. Martin shared his warm cloak with a man in need, we like use this annual tradition and take a moment as a community to reflect on ways we can share with those around us.

As we came together in unity during the Lantern Festival march, we marked the significant importance of living generously, to be glad of what we have and also what we have to give. While some may be able to share material resources and wealth, all of us can agree to share kind gestures such as a smile, a hug, a listening ear, and so much more to a friend in need. In the words of Oprah Winfrey. “You have to find what sparks a light in you so that you in your own way can illuminate the world.”
