Online library catalog now available

24th April, 2017

We are excited to announce that we have a new online catalog of the nearly 13,000 titles in our library collection with many more being added each day. It can be accessed by visiting library.cosmopolitanschool.de.

Since becoming our new librarian, one of Mr. Robertson McIlwain’s main goals has been to make the library more accessible to our entire community of patrons. Eventually that will mean a transition to a ‘learning commons’ model where users will be able to take advantage of a vast range of online and physical resources meant to inspire learning and collaboration.

As a first step, he wanted to make it possible for everyone to see what is currently available in our collection. With that in mind, we’ve been hard at work implementing a new library system based on an actively developed platform called Koha. As part of that there is now an online catalog (OPAC) available where users can see what is in our library in real time.

When asked about the new system, Mr. McIlwain said ‘It is still a work in progress, but I estimate that between 85-95% of our current collection—equaling nearly 13,000 titles—is currently available to search online with more being added every day’.

In the future, patrons will be able to reserve titles online and pick them up in the library or renew already checked out items from home.

Check it out and let us know what you think!
