International Maths Quest in Stockholm

19th June, 2018

This year, four students representing BCS, attended this year’s International Maths Quest competition on May 4-6. The competition is a 3 day event and is open to students 11  years of age and under. Students Navid, Emma, Sara and Michalina (grade 5 and 6) got the highest scores amongst 27 grade 5 and 6 students from the previous year’s competition.

The team of four students, flew to Stockholm with their teacher, Dr. Carter to participate in, and compete against 26 other top international schools from all over the world. Over the three days event, the team took part in individual, team, practical, construction and investigation challenges, plus a Maths Trail in the Technical Museum of Stockholm and an afternoon sight-seeing river cruise.

As this was the first time for BCS, and the students only had one month to prepare, the BCS team did not do as well as expected. The team challenge produced the best results at 15th place. However the individual rounds had a greater weighting, so the overall place was 26th ahead of Stockholm International’s second team.

The International Maths Quest competition is an excellent event for students to stay with host families and meet students from all over the world. We are proud, for our students to be part of that, and look forward to participating again.
