Grade 3 – Body Systems (2014-15)

29th January, 2015

For the unit on the body systems, we started with some drawing exercises to improve understanding of the proportions of the human body. Then pupils began the process of creating their own 3d model of a human figure. This was assembled using rolled up newspaper, masking tape and paper mache paste.

Pupils then used pure paint colours to mix and apply an appropriate skin colour to their figure. Finally applying the knowledge learnt in the classroom, the pupils formed and placed small pieces of coloured plasticine in the concave space left in the chest and abdomen of their figure, to represent the digestive system and internal organs of the body. Pupils also used pasta glued on black paper to represent the various bones that make up the human skeleton.
