2003 The non-profit organisation “Initiative für Bildungs- und Begabungsförderung” focusing on international education, is founded by experienced teacher and principal, Yvonne Wende. Within one year she also founds the first international preschool in Berlin-Mitte.
2004 In September the first international bilingual (English-German) Preschool for Berlin-Mitte opens its doors for 18 children and becomes the foundation of the Berlin Cosmopolitan School. Ms. Anita Kreft, who graduated with honours from Palucca School Dresden with a Post-Graduate Diploma as a dance teacher, starts teaching dance with all preschool students.
2006 Europäische Bildungsstiftung gemeinnützige GmbH is founded by lecturer, Studienrätin Helga Helmbold. Due to her generous donation and the amazing help of Michele V. Adamski, the founding of Berlin Cosmopolitan School is initiated.
2007 BCS Primary School opens with 30 students (grades 1-4) in the building of the “Evangelische Sophien-Kirche”, Alte Hamburger Straße, Berlin-Mitte. We want to express our sincere appreciation to the Protestant congregation for all its support.
2008 BCS Primary School and 70 students grades 1 to 6 move to the new school building at Rückerstrasse, Berlin-Mitte which is bought by two generous sponsors. Our professional dance hall with large mirrored walls opens with a celebratory dance performance. All classrooms are equipped with SMARTboards and internet access.
2009 BCS Secondary School opens with 10 students in grade 7. Our state-of-the-art science lab opens. The first international student exchange trips take place.
2010 130 Kindergarten & Preschool, 170 Primary and 32 Secondary School students (grades 7-8) now study at BCS. Our own sports organization is founded: Central Hoops Berlin Cosmopolitan. In the course of the year, our library opens its doors.
2011 August marks the opening of our media lab with more than 20 computers. Opening of our second Kindergarten & Preschool “Kindergarten in the Park” in October, at the Invalidenstraßen campus in Berlin-Mitte, with 40 children.
2012 A milestone in our school history: our very own school kitchen is established based on the initiative of sommelier and restaurateur, Arno Steguweit, father of two of our students. Together with chef Hartmut Keuchel, President of the “Berlin Brandenburgische Innung der Gastronomie” and his team, four cooks provide over 700 healthy meals a day – a real asset for students and teachers. In addition, a special brunch-buffet is offered to the secondary students every morning.
2013 BCS is authorized as an International Baccalaureate World School for the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP). The first MSA exams have successfully been completed. The “Cosmovatorium” is born – an extracurricular music and dance school at BCS. BCS is the first and only school in Berlin so far to offer IB Dance. Introduction of AIM as new method for teaching foreign languages. All class and subject rooms are now equipped with interactive SMARTboards, internet, computers, flip charts, whiteboards and displays.
2014 BCS celebrates its 10th year anniversary and receives official state recognition for the Upper Secondary School (Annerkanntes Gymnasium/ Sekundarstufe II).
2015 The first IB Diploma cohort successfully completes the programme. We celebrate our first all-school Summer Show presenting talents from Kindergarten all the way up to our Upper Secondary School. The Secondary Art Space is officially opened at Rückerstraße 10. Over 700 students from all over the world study at our Rückerstraße & Invalidenstraße campuses.
2016 All IB Diploma and Abitur students now study in the new and very modern Upper Secondary Forum at Rückerstraße 8. The first Abitur cohort graduates from BCS with an excellent grade point average of 1.4, which is the best result of all schools in Berlin. Congratulations to all students and teachers who made this possible! The backyard was renovated and is now the outdoor basketball and soccer area.
