A Taste of France: Field Trips of the BCS French Classes
At Berlin Cosmopolitan School, language learning goes far beyond the classroom — and this year, our French students in Grades 8 and 11 stepped out into Berlin to bring their lessons to life.
From Asterix to Magic Potion — Grade 8 at the Uderzo Exhibition
On a rainy Wednesday, 28th May, Mme. Chloé Bion and her Grade 8 French students braved the weather to visit the special exhibition UDERZO — From Asterix to Magic Potion at the Museum for Communication Berlin.
Guided by a private French-speaking tour, the students explored the world of Albert Uderzo, the celebrated French cartoonist who, together with René Goscinny, created the legendary adventures of Asterix the Gaul.
The visit perfectly complemented their classroom unit on comics and stereotypes. Students had already discovered iconic French comics — and meeting Asterix, Obelix, Dogmatix, and their entire Gaulish village up close gave them a deeper understanding of this part of French pop culture.
The exhibition, showcasing original sketches, early works, and personal treasures from Uderzo’s studio, offered a unique glimpse into the golden age of comics. Inspired by what they saw, our budding comic artists are now working on creating their own comics in French as their end-of-year project — we can’t wait to see the results!
A Taste of Francophone Culture — Grade 11 Cooking Workshop
Meanwhile, the Grade 11 French Grundkurs celebrated the end of the school year with a culinary adventure at Kochatelier Ratatouille near Rosenthaler Platz on Thursday, 26th June.
Under the guidance of a French-Canadian chef, and entirely en français, the students prepared a delicious couscous — giving it a creative twist by swapping the traditional semolina for cauliflower — paired with caramelized pork medallions.
This cooking workshop was more than just about food: it was a chance to discover francophone culture in a new and tasty way, bond as a class before next year’s Abitur, and savour the simple joy of sharing a homemade meal together.
Bringing Learning to Life
Both trips were wonderful examples of how our French programme connects language, culture, and authentic experience. Merci beaucoup to Mme. Bion for inspiring our students — inside and outside the classroom!
