For the simple machines unit, students looked at the mechanics of old style machines and artworks that were made based on industrial machine technology. They then made their own works - both 2d and 3d - inspired by machine imagery. Taking inspiration from the abstracted features seen in African tribal masks, students used a face mask as the basis for collages and prints that also worked with concepts of symmetry, balance and positive and negative space. For the time unit students created small dioramas that illustrated the changes apparent in the weather, landscape, vegetation, wildlife, people's clothing and activities across the 4 seasons.
