Unleashing the Scientist Within: Grades 11 and 12 at the Gläsernes Labor

22nd January, 2025

On January 15th and 16th, our budding scientists from Grades 11 and 12 set out on a journey into the realm of cutting-edge experiments at the Gläsernes Labor in Berlin-Buch. With lab coats on and curiosity sparking, they were joined by their teachers Dr. Sareen, Dr. Samalikova, and Dr. Oates for an unforgettable hands-on experience. Expert guides from the Gläsernes Labor led the way, ensuring each experiment was as enlightening as it was engaging.

Physics Meets Radioactivity: A Deep Dive into the Invisible

Under the expert mentorship of Dr. Oates, the Grade 11 and 12 IBDP Physics students explored the captivating realm of radioactivity. Armed with Geiger counters, they probed the mysteries of radioactive decay, measuring lifetimes of isotopes and testing how well aluminum and lead could shield against Beta and Gamma radiation. The lab’s-controlled environment made these high-stakes experiments safe and seamless. To top it off, a presentation on the medical marvels of radiation left students both inspired and awestruck. Classroom theory truly came alive as they unraveled the real-world impact of this fascinating phenomenon.

Chemistry in Action: Polymers Galore!

Meanwhile, in the world of molecules and materials, Chemistry students from Grade 11 IBDP (Dr. Sareen) and Grade 11 Abitur (Dr. Samalikova) plunged into the dynamic field of polymers. Synthetic polymers took center stage as students synthesized, experimented, and discovered their unique properties. The lab became a playground of innovation, where learning felt more like a thrilling adventure. Who knew Chemistry could be this much fun?

Fueling Curiosity, Sparking Passion

The Gläsernes Labor provided the perfect setting for our young scientists to connect theory with practice. By experimenting, analyzing, and questioning, they unlocked a deeper appreciation for the wonders of science. This experience isn’t just about labs and lectures; it’s about nurturing a passion for discovery and inspiring the next generation of innovators.
Stay curious, keep exploring, and remember — the world is your laboratory!
