Exhibition Opening at Müggelsee: A Place with History – and a Future

On Saturday, May 9, 2026, the exhibition “The Müggelseeperle – The Story of a Beloved Place” will open at Müggelsee.

It tells the more than 100-year history of a place that many Berliners know from childhood memories and excursions – from its beginnings as the Prinzengarten to its role today.

For Berlin Cosmopolitan School, this location holds special significance: it is home to our Nature Campus, where our students regularly learn outdoors and experience nature firsthand.

The Nature Campus combines nature experiences, movement, and hands-on learning. The exhibition adds an important dimension: it makes the history of this place visible and shows how past and present are connected.

In this way, learning extends beyond the classroom. Nature, history, and the present become part of a shared, meaningful environment.

At our school, we understand education as closely connected to responsibility. Those who know the history of a place develop a different relationship with it – more mindful, more aware, and more sustainable. This is exactly the mindset we aim to foster in our students.

The Müggelseeperle is a powerful example of this: a place that has continually evolved – and yet continues to bring people together.

When children understand a place, they develop a different relationship with it. At Müggelsee, it becomes clear how this place has evolved over decades – and what role it has played in people’s lives.

This knowledge creates awareness: What we know, we learn to value – and therefore to protect.

The exhibition leads along Müggelsee and into the lobby of the Müggelseeperle, bringing its history to life through historical photographs, documents, and personal memories.
