Great Success for Berlin Cosmopolitan School at the 11th State Competition “Jugend tanzt 2026”
It is just before 9 a.m. on January 17 at the Bürgerhaus Neuenhagen. Backstage, fabric rustles, shoes are laced, and final hairstyles are fixed in place. Concentration fills the air — along with a touch of stage fright. Then the lights come on. The music begins. And for the dancers of the Cosmopolitan Dance Company of Berlin Cosmopolitan School (BCS), a day begins that they will not soon forget.
From 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., the 11th State Competition “Jugend tanzt” unfolded — a long and intense day of competition, especially for the youngest participants, who were the very first group to take the stage. But tiredness? Not at all. BCS impressed the jury across several categories and age groups with expression, technique, teamwork, and a palpable joy of performance.

Urban Dance at the Highest Level
The group BCS Latin Fusion, led by Elena Sachse, also delivered a confident and powerful performance. With energy, precision, and strong stage presence, they secured 1st place in the Urban Dance category, Age Group I.
Courage That Pays Off
Both touching and impressive was the performance of the Junior Performance Kids, also under the direction of Anita S. Kreft. With less than three months of preparation, they achieved 3rd place in the Children’s Dance category. For some of them, it was their first time performing on a large theater stage — an experience that demands courage and builds self-confidence.
Rhythm in Their Feet
The Performance Class also impressed with their tap dance routine, earning 3rd place in the Show/Jazz Dance category, Age Group II.
These successes are no coincidence, but the result of intensive work, pedagogical dedication, and true teamwork. Special thanks go to the teachers Diana Schumann, Elena Sachse, and Naira Schwemmler for their support on this exciting day. We also thank the helping parents — especially Ms. Knipping and Ms. Erden Ozkan — as well as all families who made additional rehearsals possible.
The competition demonstrated once again: At Berlin Cosmopolitan School, dance is more than movement — it is expression, personal development, and lived community. And for some of our young dancers, the journey is only just beginning.
