Alumni talk about their career paths
From school days to the future
Heinrich-Louis Hellmer
From Berlin to Amsterdam: Finding Purpose Through Connection
Graduating in the midst of the COVID pandemic meant that many traditional paths were suddenly uncertain. For Heinrich-Louis, this unusual situation opened unexpected opportunities. He spent two years gaining hands-on experience in the private sector, working with medium-sized enterprises and start-ups as an intern and executive support. These insights into different business environments eventually led him to pursue Business Studies at the University of Amsterdam, where he is now thriving.

Looking back, Heinrich-Louis credits his time at BCS for shaping the way he sees the world. The school’s emphasis on global awareness and intercultural understanding, he says, gave him a sense of interconnectedness — a mindset that continues to guide him in his academic and professional choices.
His advice to current BCS students:
“Listen to your intrinsic motivation. What moves you? What change do you want to see in the world? That clarity will lead you to success.”
He also highlights the value of staying connected as alumni:
“We share the same roots, the same values of diversity and openness. In a world where connection matters more than ever, an engaged alumni network can open doors, offer support, and make life a lot easier.”
Naya Sarah
From Berlin to a Career in Medicine: Finding Her Calling Through Experience
For Naya, one of the most memorable experiences during her BCS years was a class trip to France — a moment that brought her language skills to life and showed her how learning can extend far beyond the classroom. But it was the school’s science program, with its hands-on laboratories, field trips, and IB practicals, that truly shaped her path.

Today, Naya is in her 7th semester of medical studies, following a journey that involved reflection, exploration, and meaningful volunteer work. A pivotal moment came while working as a nurse during her volunteer year — an experience that helped her realize she wanted to work closely with people and pursue a profession with purpose.
She emphasizes how BCS prepared her for this step:
“Science at BCS wasn’t just content. It taught us how research works — how to ask the right questions, design an experiment, and process information in a meaningful way. It showed me that science is alive, constantly evolving, and full of possibilities.”
Her advice to BCS students:
“Take your time. There is no rush to choose a path immediately after graduation. Explore. Try things out. University will challenge you to motivate yourself — start early.”
Naya warmly encourages all alumni to reconnect:
“It’s special to see where everyone has gone. By sharing our experiences — especially the challenges — we can help each other navigate decisions, applications, and career choices. Let’s learn from one another.”
Enno Heffels
From Berlin to St. Gallen and Back to Berlin: Shaping a Global Mindset
After graduating from BCS, Enno moved to Switzerland to study International Affairs at the University of St. Gallen, one of Europe’s leading institutions in the field. During his studies, he worked for the renowned St. Gallen Symposium, a platform that brings together global leaders — diplomats, CEOs, youth representatives — to discuss pressing world issues.

Having completed his Bachelor’s degree, Enno is now starting his Master’s in International Affairs at the Hertie School in Berlin.
He credits two key influences from his time at BCS:
• A close relationship with his economics teacher
• His involvement in the Model United Nations (MUN) club
Together, these experiences helped shape his passion for global politics and economics.
His advice to current BCS students:
“Enjoy your time — it goes by quickly. Stay close to your friends and make use of the BCS community. It’s amazing how paths cross again; I reconnected with two BCS alumni while studying in St. Gallen.”
For Enno, the BCS mindset can be summed up in one principle:
“Think about global challenges — but act locally. Make an impact in your neighborhood. That’s how real change begins.”
He encourages future graduates to join the alumni network:
“I loved reconnecting with friends and classmates. Come join us next year and pass on the insights you’ve gained since your BCS days.”
