Language as Part of Identity – Poetry Reading at BCS
On Tuesday, 3 February 2026, Berlin Cosmopolitan School warmly invites the community to a special evening of poetry and reflection entitled “Language as Part of Identity.”
The reading will take place from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Aula of Berlin Cosmopolitan School.
Language shapes how we see ourselves and the world around us. In this multilingual poetry reading, three young voices — Maryam Talibi, Mariia Kaziun, and Ali Alzaeem — will share poems that explore identity, belonging, multilingualism, politics, and personal experience across cultures and borders.
Maryam Talibi, a student at Berlin Cosmopolitan School, discovered poetry through the Poetry Project. Her work reflects on time, identity, and the spaces in between languages.
Mariia Kaziun, a young graphic designer from Kyiv, has been living in Berlin since 2022 and combines her artistic sensibility with poetic expression shaped by displacement and resilience.
Ali Alzaeem, who grew up in Syria and came to Germany as a teenager, writes poetry alongside his professional work in digitalisation and civic engagement.
The evening is organised in cooperation with The Poetry Project e.V. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the association. Admission is free for children, while adults are kindly asked to make a cash donation on site.
We look forward to welcoming students, parents, staff, and guests to an inspiring evening that celebrates language as a vital part of identity and human connection.
