Exploring Climate Realities: Pulitzer Center Reporter shares Insights with BCS Abitur Class
As part of their unit on climate change, our Grade 12 Abitur English students took part in an inspiring international learning experience this week. The class met virtually with Washington D.C.–based journalist Delger Erdenesanaa, whose work on science and the environment has been featured in Inside Climate News, The Texas Observer, The New York Times, and in Pulitzer Center for Reporting projects.
During the session, Ms. Erdenesanaa guided students through her recent New York Times article exploring the rise in sea temperatures along the U.S. East Coast. Her reporting focuses on the far-reaching effects on coastal and salt marsh communities, including the Gullah Geechee people in North Carolina — a group whose cultural heritage is deeply tied to the region’s ecosystems.
Before moving into a Q&A, Ms. Erdenesanaa also discussed the cultural dimensions of climate change, highlighting how shifting environmental conditions shape traditions, livelihoods, and identities. Students also gained insight into the innovative ways local communities and scientists are working together to adapt to these rapid changes.
A heartfelt thank you to Delger Erdenesanaa and Jessica Mims at the Pulitzer Center for making this exchange possible—and to our Grade 12 students for their thoughtful engagement throughout the session!
