Caves, cocoa and favourite books: how our Grade 7 students experienced Reading Day
To mark National Reading Day, Grade 7 studetns at Berlin Cosmopolitan School devoted their German lessons entirely to reading. The pupils brought their favourite books with them and transformed the classroom into a cosy reading oasis: they made themselves comfortable in the darkened room with blankets, cushions, cuddly toys and torches.
To kick things off, the German teacher read from Jostein Gaarder’s classic Sophie’s World – accompanied by a crackling open fire on the smartboard. Afterwards, the pupils were able to enjoy their own books and immerse themselves in creative reading environments. Homemade caves, hot cocoa with marshmallows and a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere made this day a special experience.
The reading day showed once again how much joy reading can bring – especially when there is room for imagination, favourite stories and a little bit of magic. A big thank you goes to German teachers Katharina Pietzner and Lilli Lamcken, who made this cosy reading day possible for their pupils.
