At Berlin Cosmopolitan School, students become lifelong learners who acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to adapt and succeed in an ever-changing world.
The Berlin Cosmopolitan School implements the Berlin state curriculum and, as an International Baccalaureate World School, follows the IB Diploma Programme (IB DP). At the end of Year 10, students can obtain the Mittlerer Schulabschluss (MSA). After Year 12, students can obtain an IB Diploma and the German Abitur.
The curriculum for the upper secondary school at the Berlin Cosmopolitan School is bilingual, in English and German. Students have the opportunity to earn a bilingual IB DP diploma if they successfully complete an upper secondary literature course in both German and English. Students also have the opportunity to take French and Spanish as a second or third foreign language.
Ethical internships take place from 6th to 10th grade and allow students to learn from and connect with their community by spending time and developing projects with groups such as senior citizens, refugees or at-risk youth.
Pupils participate in identifying local and international needs, plan their actions and later present the results and personal reflections on their experiences. In Years 11-12, students continue their local and international community engagement as part of the CAS programme as outlined in the IB Diploma-Programme.
The Berlin Cosmopolitan School not only works with people in the local community, but also with international organisations such as SOS Children’s Villages and Paper Pen Peace (children’s rights), Wilderness International (climate protection) and C.A.R.E (refugee rights).
As an all-day secondary school, the Berlin Cosmopolitan School offers an afternoon programme between 3 and 6 p.m. in which students can deepen their learning in expert groups, check and complete their homework in the tutorial, improve their language skills in the language support programmes and take part in over 50 afternoon activities, including various sports, Model United Nations, debating, Maths Olympics, school newspaper, ballet, modern dance, orchestra, recording studio and robotics, to name but a few.
In addition to the day trips that take place throughout the year, the classes also take part in week-long excursions outside of Berlin. These trips are themed and provide an in-depth exploration of a specific subject. Our class trips have included an exploration of physics in Hamburg, a historical look at 19th century industrialisation in the Ruhr region, biology on the Baltic Sea and language trips to England, France and Spain.
The Berlin Cosmopolitan School offers a wide range of academic qualifications, including the Bilingual Abitur and the International Baccalaureate (IB).

Niches, armchairs, corners and window seats invited visitors to retreat with a book and escape for a while.
We return home with photographs, greater self-confidence, new friendships, and the quiet realisation that the world feels a little less far away now.
