Diversity as strength: BCS shapes integration in the European SCHOOLinHUB project
The Berlin Cosmopolitan School is delighted to be part of the European SCHOOLinHUB project, which is funded by the European Union’s Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF). AMIF supports initiatives across Europe that strengthen integration, improve educational opportunities and promote social cohesion. The fact that our school has been selected as a partner in this context is both a recognition and a mission for us.
SCHOOLinHUB aims to develop schools into vibrant centres of integration. The focus is on children with a migration background aged between four and seven and their families. At the same time, the project is aimed at teachers, educational professionals and school administrators who want to further develop their skills in the areas of language education, participation and intercultural cooperation. The approach is holistic: schools are not viewed in isolation, but as places that connect families, communities and educational institutions.
As part of the project, we are working with partners from several European countries to develop innovative, practical concepts. These include Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), the use of social stories, playful and digital learning formats, and structured strategies for parental involvement. The aim is to promote language development, self-efficacy and social integration in equal measure. At the same time, evaluation tools are being developed to systematically review the effectiveness of the measures and anchor them sustainably in everyday school life.
For Berlin Cosmopolitan School, participation in SCHOOLinHUB is a logical continuation of our educational philosophy. As an international school with a diverse student body, we see diversity as a strength. Inclusion, multilingualism and cultural openness are not additional offerings, but cornerstones of our work. Through our collaboration in the AMIF project, we are expanding our expertise, reflecting on our practices in a European exchange and actively contributing to the further development of innovative educational models.
We see it as our responsibility to create educational spaces in which every child – regardless of their background or language – has the opportunity to develop, build skills and experience a sense of belonging. SCHOOLinHUB encourages us in this path and enables us to share our experiences with European partners and learn from each other.
Participating in such an important European project not only highlights the quality of our educational work, but also our commitment to viewing school as a place of social responsibility. Integration begins in everyday life, in the classroom, in conversations with parents, and in learning together. With SCHOOLinHUB, we are making an active contribution to this – locally anchored and connected across Europe.
