International Day at the Berlin Cosmopolitan School Kindergarten – experiencing and celebrating diversity
On 2 October, our nursery school once again became a colourful meeting place for different cultures: on International Day, children, parents and teachers were able to discover and experience the diversity of the world together.
International Day is more than just a celebration – it is an educational event that strengthens intercultural competence, empathy and appreciation for different cultures from an early age. Through music, dance, art, literature and traditional foods, children learn how diverse our world is. At the same time, the day promotes a sense of community and cooperation between children, parents and our team.
At this year’s International Day, families presented stands with traditional dishes, craft ideas, literature and costumes from countries such as Turkey, Israel, Guatemala, Switzerland, Greece, Australia, Spain, France, India, Italy, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, China, Russia, El Salvador and Germany (various regions).
Our teachers were also actively involved: Lina presented our Yoga Club, and at the Dance Circle, the children were able to learn and participate in dances from Germany (with Tina), Uganda (with Jane) and Serbia (with Dusica).
In this way, diversity was not only visible but also tangible – through joint activities, exchange and creativity. International Day is an important highlight at the BCS kindergarten, conveying the values of our school – openness, respect and intercultural education – right from the start.
