Music
Music plays a very special role at BCS. It is a vital element of the school curriculum and also of our diverse Extracurricular Programme. First and foremost, we believe that music is both aesthetic and academic. The aesthetic side appeals to the self-expression, artistic, and simple need for fun of students of all ages, and the academic side makes use of concentration, logics, theory, math, history, literature and languages, and social interaction. This can have an impact on, and be applied to, all other school subjects. Consistent music education, as offered at BCS for 2 hours per week for every class, is therefore a benefit for all other subjects as well.
Our Extracurricular Programme currently incorporates:
- 2 Choirs
- 2 String Orchestra (as of September 2011 a second one)
- Recorder Ensemble
- Rock bands
- Digital music
- Instrument Building
Yet another musical offering at BCS is the Berlin Cosmopolitan Music School, which offers private, individual instrumental lessons. We currently offer Piano, Violin, Cello, Guitar, Recorder, Flute, Clarinet, Harp and Drums.
At regular intervals, usually every 6 weeks, parents and friends are invited to our Casual Concert Series, where our students are given the chance perform their musical highlights on stage.
